Start of 2017 - 2018 Wine Season

Well now that I have survived the garden and the canning, I guess its time to make wine again.

The crew will be meeting on Thursday this year - that will give those long fall and winter weekends some breathing room. We have 6 kits in the cellars from last year which should be the first ones to be made. We have talked about the wine for the Christmas Tea, and the Cellar is running low on white so those are our first priorities. We've set the first "meeting" on October 19, 2017

Whoever shows up, we'll start inventorying bottles and general supplis and go from there. Hopefully we'll get some kits started.

The ones in inventory from last year are:

WinExpert Selection Australian Traminer-Reisling - Betsy

WinExpert Vintners Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - Betsy

RJS Grand Cru Malbec - Mollie & Betsy

WinExpert Vintners Reserve Merlot - Michele

Fontana Merlot - Michele

Winelovers Merlot - Michele

October 19, 2017

Only Paula and Michele were able to make it. But we got a lot of work done. We started 3 wine kits

The lively golden hue reveals a combination of floral notes and apple crispness with perfumed headiness of lychee, rose petals, and hints of passion fruit. The long finish and medium body makes a great off-dry wine for sipping. The Australian Traminer Riesling is excellent with Asian cuisine, soft cheeses, oily fish and especially smoked salmon.

We might try to add part of the F pack to the primary fermentation, as this wine tends to be a little sweet.

  • Fontana Merlot (Michele) - 4 week kit

Soft and silky Merlot is a very easy, friendly wine. Fruity and rich with flavours of black cherry, plum, vanilla, oak, violets, and dark fruits, it can also contain hints of cedar or cigar. Merlot lends itself fabulously to romantic dinners, informal gatherings, and cocktail parties.

  • Wine Lovers Merlot (Michele) - 4 week kit

Although I was able to find out that the company is Canadian, I wasn't able to come up with a description for the records.

Everything went well and it looks like the bottle and cork inventory seem to be fine to get us started.

We need:

  • sanitizer - there may be some at the other house

  • Worksheets - I'm going to rework them
