Wines Almost Done, Berries Have Started and The Pup is Growing

Updated: Jun 4, 2020

Summer has finally arrived but the garden is in better shape than it has ever been. With the lock-down because of COVID-19, the senior center and the college closing, there is nowhere to go. We stayed up with the sprays in the orchard, but the spring has been wet so the fungus and rot have been troublesome, as well as the spray for insects being washed off right after I put it on a couple of times. We also thought we had survived the frost, but on closer evaluation, I think we did get bite by it, the fruit on the outside and on the north seems to be missing - but everything is fine on the inside of the trees. It was supposed to be an off year so this is fine. We pruned hard to get the trees back in shape, from last year's neglect (cancer sort of takes your eye off the ball), so this year is a "rebuilding year" as they say at the Redskins and the Terps all the time.

It was supposed to be an off year, so tI'm fine with a reduced harvest. Buddy is doing good, except with the heat he likes it under the car in the garage - that is being dealt with by poking at him with the rake, every time he goes under there - seems to be learning!! The puppy teeth are still sharp and he still forgets himself. He is a sweetie - most of the time, and I think I'm going to get Richard and Gregg to take a look at him - I think he's going to be a good looking dog. Now if I can harness the 'tude, we'll be fine.

We're finishing up the wine, only 1 Chianti and one Port left to be bottled. Considering the travel and the Pandemic, we didn't do too bad. The production for 2019-2020 Season looks to be just short of 600 bottles, and that probably make the cellar stand at about 800.
